The 13 Elantra is a chain. One can usually tell a belt if there is a covering on one side of engine which houses the belt. Some vehicles difficult to examine without removing the cowling.

The diagram is for the wrong car. The OP has the 2012 Elantra Touring, which is a wagon and has a different engine than the sedan and hatchback. It has a timing belt.

I have no idea what you mean. Explain why you just love throwing money out the window please? I really need to hear this one.
What I mean is if you have a timing belt you know up front that it is going to need replaced every 8~10 years or whatever. You never know when you timing chain is going to need replaced. It"s a lottery. I bet the guy who owns the Elantra in that video used to think his would never need replaced, but he knows better now.

GDI with long oil change scenarios, I say that"s up for debate. Soot would be your enemy here.I would of like to see one step up in size of the chain by Hyundai..
So, to confirm you are planning on replacing your timing chain? Or have you done so on prior cars for "preventive" maintenance. If so, how much did you pay?

Thanks for everybody. I guest it is timing belt. I can see a plastic cover beside the engine. I will remove the cover to take a look tomorrow. It seems like not too hard to remove the cover, with 4 screws. I have 132000 KM now, so it is time to change if it is belt.

I see now where the confusion was. You have a 2012 Elantra, TOURING. That is a completely different model than the 2011-16 MD sedan. Yours shares the design of the previous generation Elantra. The forum for that model, probably would have been the place to post your question.Either way I"m glad you got your answer.
2012 Elantra TOURING is a FD chassis,,, it has the old 2.0L BETA that carries back into the old XD chassis,, and is timing belt driven (plastic cover between drive belt and actual engine)UD/MD Elantra sports the 1.8 NU engine,, it is timing chain (aluminum front cover with over lap cam cover says so

Thanks. i opened the cover. It is timing belt and still looks good. I contacted Hyundai dealer. They need $600 for belt and about $150 for water pump. It is Canadian dollar. And they said I don"t need to change the water pump. Now, I am wondering if I need to change the water pump together, because it is still good.
Personally I always change the water pump when I do a timing belt replacement. If you are going to spend all the effort and money needed to replace the belt, it only makes sense to replace the water pump.

I think the Elantra went from a timing belt in "06 to a timing chain in 07 and years after, as it seems by my net searching. A nice piece of info to keep in the back of your noggin.
